From the Stage to Social Media. An interview with our new PR and Marketing Co-Ordinator.
We are happy to announce our new PR and Marketing Co-Ordinator Rach! We did a little interview with her so that you can get to know her.
So, Rach how long have you been doing marketing and PR?
I have been working in marketing and PR for 7 years…. wow where does the time go? Before that I was an actress/dancer and working on community projects that looked at topics such as body image, depression and social injustice. It was from doing these performances that I started to learn about marketing and events through promoting the shows with little money (had to get the starving artist reference in). I loved it and started doing more as a freelancer.
I then went back to do my Masters in Advertising and Marketing at The University of Hull as a mature student (BEST DECISION EVER).
Since then I have worked for Hull Culture & Leisure promoting shows at Hull New Theatre and City Hall, including educational and children’s shows, working with the press and using a whole plethora of marketing. I also worked for a socially good marketing agency eskimosoup working on campaigns that tackled child grooming, smoking prevention, lung health and metal health. Within my role there I worked on multiple films and social media.
What’s your favorite thing about marketing and PR?
For me it’s a really creative job and one which I find my drama background really leans too. I love communication in general and getting to communicate the work that HOP does is a privilege. I am also a bit of an analytics nerd so understanding how our stakeholders are reaching us is super interesting.
What are you most excited about working with HOP?
When I saw the job come up for HOP I emailed every person I possibly could, too keen? No! For me what HOP do is very much in line with the work I love to do. Social justice is something I’ve worked on my whole career so for me this job was perfect. I’m excited to shout from the social media rooftops about HOP and make our information as accessible and helpful as possible! On a side note the team have welcomed me in arms wide and they are lovely bunch!
Tell us a fact about yourself.
I love to sing! I am part of Hessle Theatre Company and perform in musicals at Hull New Theatre and City Hall. I also love reading psychological thrillers and am convinced I was the female Sherlock Holmes in a past life.
